Grey Check Trousers

Over the course of the year, I’ve been expressing with you all my love for the versatility of a suit. A suit can be a powerful stand alone piece, but, in my opinion, it’s not until you wear each piece separately that you fully get to experience the endless and timeless options a suit has to offer.

At the beginning of this year, I became a brand ambassador for The Tailory New York. The first ensemble Shao made me consisted of a navy woven wool sports coat, a printed shirt, and the trousers that I’m wearing today. Honestly, these trousers are so multifaceted that I must have worn them twenty times since creating them.

A Bolder You

Black, grey, and navy suits are timeless and can work well with a variety of colors. But, the look can also present as boring and outdated. So, if you want to add a little life to your wardrobe, ditch that tired look and explore bolder patterns and colors that pop.

When it comes to suits – reds, yellows, and oranges are the perfect tones to compliment the rustic print of the pictured trousers. AND… if you’re feeling really bold, I recommend styling these trousers with a printed shirt. No need to get overwhelmed, just stick to what you know. White shirts with brown, red, yellow, or orange prints are safe combinations. So start there.

How I Wore It

What I find most exciting about printed suits is the endless styling options. I’m constantly challenging myself to push the boundaries of traditionalism, so I tend to stray away from the basics. For example, here, instead of a contrasting blazer or topcoat, I opted for a suede chestnut bomber over a red turtleneck. The bomber offered a more modern look to the ensemble while the golden tones brought out the rustic print in the trousers. I sealed the deal with a chic pair of Persol sunglasses and brown leather Chelsea boots.

Get creative and explore how you could style trousers like these!
