Mustard Suiting Separates

One of my favorite things about suiting is the versatility of a suit. These days, I gravitate towards wearing my suit as two separate pieces rather than a complete set. Suiting separates allow you to attain a sharp look with a hint of casual.

Do these trousers look familiar? It’s the same pair worn in my reintroduction of The Tailory New York. Much like some of you, I don’t always want to wear a suit. This time around, I decided to wear my new trousers more casually.

Most tailors will suggests a traditional charcoal grey suit as your first suit. I don’t agree nor disagree with a grey suit as your first suit, but I definitely understand why tailors suggest it. The versatility of the neutral tones allow for a classic and timeless business look or a flattering more stylish look for weddings and weekends. In a nutshell, it is perfect for all occasions.

How I Wore It

New York can’t seem to shake the winter season, which allows for me to play with layers for a little while longer. Since grey suits work well with a wide variety of colors, I decided to take a risk and play with dark and bright colors.

I love getting creative with suiting separates. The brown windowpane print works well with so many different color palettes. Blues, greens, reds, yellows, you name it! After pulling out just about every color, I finally decided on a mustard crew neck sweater and it worked out perfectly! The golden and brown undertones of the sweater really complemented the trousers.

Without question, your shoes should enhance the character of the outfit. Although double monk strap shoes are my go-to, I opted for derby leather shoes in burgundy with a polished finish. It was the perfect shoe for a casual yet sophisticated look.

To seal the deal and keep warm, I threw on a Turkish blue overcoat and multicolor check scarf that encompasses all of the colors of the ensemble.

I’ve said it before and Il’ll say it again, never be afraid of push the limits and being on-traditional.
