Non-Traditional Suiting

The classic ‘male’ suit has evolved drastically since its birth in the 17th and 18th centuries. Way back then, men wore flashy topcoats, shirts with ruffled collars and cuffs, and knee-breeches for pants. Eventually style or what we now call ‘trend’ evolved into trousers and fitted jackets or suit coats, thanks to a British fashionista by the name of George ‘Beau’ Brummell. He was also the man who changed men’s fashion forever! In the late 1700s, he introduced the three-piece suit. That’s just a little fashion history to show how far we’ve come.

Back then you would have never seen a women sporting a suit, let alone a three piece suit. But then figures like Coco Chanel, Marlene Dietrich, and the fictional character Annie Hall (Diane Keaton) began to open the door for women like myself.

Instead of wearing the traditional three-piece suit: matching suit jacket, waistcoat, and trousers. I went with a more bold, powerful look. This purple jacket and vest are just the right colors to launch the look into spring. The cranberry pants are a nice contrast color yet they keep their own identity. Never hesitate to be “the non-traditionalist.”
