Style is a way to express yourself without speaking. Like any form of art, the important thing is to feel satisfied with your masterpiece.
There are a few things that I take into consideration when putting together an ensemble. To start, I always ask myself “what mood are you trying to convey?” My goal is to continue to ungender fashion. Being responsible for a more inclusive future for everyone comes with personal challenges, such as staying true to myself while eliminating boundaries. It’s a constant battle to try and figure out the type of fashion statement that I want to make. Being a masculine presenting woman invokes many societal responses ranging from feelings of intimidation or inquisitiveness.
My suit is my shield of armor and my magic wand. It is my shield, empowering me to tune out the haters. As a wand, it creates a space where others can experience hope and inspiration. I want others to feel accepted, confident, and free. My hope is that I am not only educating the LGBTQ+ communities, but also opening the hearts and minds of others.
A Brighter Summer
I’ve been patiently waiting to bust out my spring attire especially some of my bright and bold suits. Two summers ago, The Tailory New York created this green plaid suit and solid purple suit for me to wear during New York Fashion Week SS18. I’m not sure why it’s taken me so long to pair the pieces together, but hey, better late than never.
The spring/summer months are my favorite time of the year because I really get to step outside of the box and get creative with my attire. Warm weather brings many challenges like choosing color schemes, deciding how many layers to wear, fabric selection, and shoe pairing.
The double breasted green blazer, highlighted with pink plaid, sat perfectly on top of the purple trousers. Recently, I’ve been doing without a tie or pocket square. Some suits are a statement all of their own so no need to add extra accessories. A pale pink button up kept the look casual yet chic. To maintain a spring like fun aesthetic, I opted for blush mono pink sneakers instead of dress shoes.
A bold and sophisticated ensemble that pushes boundaries and sets the tone for Spring.
