Visit Washington DC

My partner and I love experiencing new places, cultures, and perspectives. What is unique about our travel adventures is that we aren’t drawn to touristy or Instagram photo ready locations. In fact, one of the things that we pride ourselves on is experiencing new places like a local or as we like to say “living like a local.” We seek out neighborhood cafes, restaurants, music venues, bookstores, you name it!

Visit Washington DC

Last month, my partner and I traveled to the Capital with the Washington.org to experience the real DC. The idea was to explore and share all that DC has to offer outside of the typical tourist attractions like the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, and the White House. So, we created our own weekend itinerary full of local food spots, pop-up exhibits, and hidden gems. We literally went everywhere from Georgetown, to Downtown, to Ivy City, and all of the areas in between.

We stayed at The Watergate Hotel – a waterfront hotel that was centrally located around all of the places that we wanted to explore and, also within walking distance to a huge park for our pup, Shiloh, to run around in.

Michelin Star

I think it’s safe to say that all of our travel is centered around food. One of our favorite food and travel inspirations is Anthony Bourdain’s, Parts Unknown. We also find a lot of new eateries in magazines, travel guides, and of course, social media, but, our go-to restaurant guide is the Michelin Guide. If you’re unfamiliar with the Michelin Guide, then pause from reading about our trip, click the link, and go get lost in learning about the best food from all around the world.

Our itinerary was full of Michelin-starred and Bib Gourmand restaurants like Das Ethiopian, Maydan, and Blue Duck Tavern. All three eateries were delicious! My mouth is watering thinking about the fresh injera, shrimp, and red lentils from Das; the fresh bread, swordfish kebab, and sweet potatoes from Maydan, and, the bone marrow, crab cakes, and pancakes from Blue Duck Tavern. OMG… I can’t wait to go back! If you’ve never been and are looking for places to eat, I highly HIGHLY recommend these three restaurants.

Until next time… happy travel and dining!
