So I’m definitely not the the originator of using a necktie as a belt. This chic sartorial look was made popular by the late Fred Astaire, an American dancer, singer, and actor.
To be honest, I can’t think of a better alternative to wearing a tie. The outfit options are endless! There’s the casual look like I’m wearing, but can you imagine using a necktie as a belt when wearing a suit? As I write, I’m thinking of all of the endless suiting possibilities 🙂
Wearing a necktie around your waist can be perceived as flamboyant or feminine rather than masculine, but I think it’s all about how you style it. What I love most about the concept of a necktie as a belt is that it’s gender fluid. Think about all of the people who’ve adopted this trend after Fred Astaire like Michael Jackson, Johnny Depp, John Mayer, and Kate Spade. If you’re feeling daring then I recommend testing out this chic accessory twist.
How I Wore A Necktie As A Belt
Lately, I’ve been all about tucking t-shirts into trousers. It’s a look that’s sophisticated yet comfortable. BUT… even I need a break from professional wear.
This go ’round, I opted for a casual chic get up. Nothing screams casual better than a t-shirt and jeans. A basic white t-shirt and blue jeans was the perfect color combo for the vibrant orange check necktie. All that’s left, a pair of sunglasses and shoes to compliment the tie. No need to over accessorize. Remember, less is more!
