Getaway House
Getaway House are tiny little houses nestled in nature and far away from the noise of city life!
Circa Brooklyn 2015, Getaway has become the perfect hideaway for people looking to disconnect. The company has several outpost locations spanning the east coast and has slowly started creating a footprint on the west coast in California and Washington.
New Yorkers have made in made though! 1 hour and 45 minutes north of Manhattan, you’ll find two locations: Getaway Catskill East and Getaway Catskill West.
Each tiny home can be rented for a night, weekend, or max, 7 consecutive nights. The minimalist style cabins are simple, yet functional, offering you just what you need and nothing more.
Check-In
Each cabin is secured by a digital lock. You’ll receive the name of your outpost as well as the unlock code to your cabin via text the morning of your check-in.
The first night may be a little nerve-racking for those who aren’t use to ‘real camping’ or this level of quiet. Remember, you aren’t the only one in the woods. There are other tiny homes scattered throughout the outposts as well as animals living in their natural habitat. So, don’t be alarmed by the sound of someone or something rustling in the distance. It’s likely a neighbor walking by or squirrels running around.
Inside Your Home
Getaway Houses mission and hope is that you will truly disconnect, relax, and recharge, which is why you’ll find, on the table inside, a cellphone lockbox that states “for a true escape, place it in and forget your phone.”
Once you do that you’ll find all the things you’ll need to get you through the day!
Each outpost comes with a luxurious queen-sized mattress topped with cloud-like fluffy pillows, sheets, and a soft, warm blanket that’ll have you never wanting to get out of the bed. Depending on the size of your family, you can book a cabin with one or two beds. The icing on the cake – your bed sits in front of a giant window! Whether you like to star gaze from the bed or take in the beauty of nature you’re bound to feel completely relaxed and at peace.
The kitchenette is equipped with minimal appliances for cooking as well as dish-ware and utensils. For a small fee, Getaway House offers a cute provisions basket filled with insect wipes, tea, hot cocoa, and coffee. You’ll also find a paper bag full of all the ingredients needed to make s’mores as well as s’mores sticks. Honestly, all you’ll need to bring are your food choices and spices.
Opposite the bed and behind the only other door inside of the outpost, you’ll find the the bathroom, which includes a toilet, towels, wash cloths and a shower filled with shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner.
Embrace Your Outdoor Space
Outside of each cabin is just enough space for you to kick back and embrace nature!
Your outdoor space includes a fire pit with grill grate, campfire kit filled with a bundle of wood, fire-starters, two lawn chairs, and a picnic bench.
Are you already thinking “what happens if I run out of firewood?” Don’t sweat, Getaway has you covered! Both firewood and fire-starters are available for purchase (for a small fee). You can either use the red phone inside or send them a text message and someone will bring up what you need.
