Casual Jean Jacket

New York would not be New York without a late start to Spring. A few weeks ago, we happily welcomed the Spring season, all while continuing to wear lightweight winter layers and dark colors. Then again, I cannot say that I’m entirely mad because most days of the week, I prefer to wear black.

Jean Jacket Weather

Back in February, I announced that The Tailory New York is now offering custom denim by highlighting a custom denim set created by the clothier company. Little did I know that the jean jacket would become a staple in my Spring wardrobe.

There are so many advantages to owning a jean jacket. For me, the major benefit, much like owning a pair of jeans, is the versatility that jean jackets offer. It is a non-binary piece that is light enough to wear on a warm Spring-like day and warm enough to wear in Fall or a cool Summer night. So, if you think about it, there really are endless styling possibilities. Today, I’ll talk about one, but be prepared to see a whole lot more options before we transition into summer.

Personal Style

For a long time, my everyday uniform consisted of a suit, shirt, tie, and double monk strap or oxford lace shoes. Over the years, I have focused more on expanding my wardrobe into a more casual chic and sophisticated palette. At times, fashion can be stale or repetitive, but the true beauty in personal style is always finding new ways to reinvent yourself.

The Fit Makes The Look

I am obsessed with the fits of this custom piece, especially having never owned a proper fitting jean jacket. The fit of a garment is extremely important to me. As a masculine presenting woman, I prefer clothing that isn’t too fitted. Typically, I categorize my style as androgynous – meaning not feminine nor masculine, but somewhere in between. So, when creating the jean jacket, Shao left a little extra room in the armhole and the body of the jacket while also adding a slight crop to the body, ensuring that the bottom of the jacket sat right at my waist line. Those minor details really speak to my personal style.

Now, let’s talk about this casual chic ensemble. The look is clean and simple, but wouldn’t be the same without the jacket. So, I think it’s safe to say that that was the focal point of the get up. Once I had that down, I added one of my favorite pieces, a chunky turtleneck, and my go-to pinstripe suit trousers. I have a few pairs of pinstripe trousers, but I love the subtle white stripes in this particular pair, so I tend to wear them a lot 🤷🏽‍♂️. I slipped on my leather black chelsea boots, and sealed the deal with a suede dad hat. Not much too it – clean and simple using pieces that I have worn over and over again.

Remember, less is more. So, take a deeper look into your closet and work with what you have.
