The weather is quickly changing and, well, let’s face it, it’s time to say goodbye to summer fun and get back to business! It’s the perfect time of year to shop for a neutral fall suit that will help upgrade your wardrobe.
Most people have at least one suit. You know the one – the basic black or grey suit stashed somewhere in your closet for potential interviews, occasional weddings, and the like. I’m here to tell you that suiting should be fun. So, donate that old suit and let’s re-envision suiting and learn how to incorporate it in your wardrobe.
Invest in Quality Over Quantity
Choosing the right suit can be challenging, for many reasons. But the first hurdle is understanding the difference between quality and quantity. Yes, suiting can be expensive, but it all depends on your perspective. Would you rather waste your money repurchasing inexpensive, low quality, off the rack suits, or, invest into a high quality or custom made suit? I’m sure you’d prefer the latter.
The trick is to maximize your efforts when purchasing a suit. Invest in a piece that can be worn often, like a classic black, charcoal grey, or navy suit. Yes, they scream conservative, but different colors and styles offer versatility, allowing for you to push the boundaries of traditionalism.
Re-Envision Suiting
Earlier in the year, Shao used the concept of patchwork to recreate the gingham plaid suit. This Fall, she’s at it again! Having never owned a charcoal suit before, I suggested to Shao that I finally add it to my wardrobe. Of course, Shao’s response was to take the boring out of the classic by creating a charcoal and black patchwork double breasted ensemble. Now, if this isn’t the way to re-envision suiting then I don’t know what is.
Her vision took this suit to a new level. It’s edgy and chic, but also conservative. Over the summer, I opted for a sporty look to close out the summer. A crisp white t-shirt and sneakers, but now it’s time to start thinking about Fall attire.
Fall Favorite
Black and grey are some of the easiest colors to match with. White is always a good matching go-to, but why wear what is expected when you can create a new trend! Don’t be afraid to push the boundaries and take new risks. Remember, real style is never right or wrong, it’s about being yourself on purpose!
One of my favorite pieces, the turtleneck, is the perfect replacement for the white shirt or shirt and tie combo. The versatile garment is comfortable, warm, and easy to wear. A fitted turtleneck can elevate the classic suit, making it look more modern and chic. A thicker, chunkier turtleneck will create a more casual look, while maintaining a sophisticated vibe. Autumnal shades of blue, red, purple, and green are perfect compliments to dark suiting.
I’ll be sharing some personal style and favorite Fall looks in the upcoming weeks. Until then, here’s a little turtleneck inspiration.

November 3, 2018Hi! Just wondering when you by ready made trousers, do they usually run shorter or longer? Trying to by a pair of pants from topman but don’t know how they will fit. Thank you!

November 4, 2018Hi there! I’m about 5’4″-5’5″. I buy mens short length when shopping at Topman. I still have to alter the short, but it’s because of where I prefer my trouser leg to sit. With that being said, I say they are as true to size as can be for ready made.

December 14, 2018I dress like You, but more casual. My problem is shirts. The sleeves are always too long. I find that men have more colors and a better variety than women’s shirts. You’re a nice dresser. Congratulations . I’m glad that we can finally be ourselves. I am following your page. I just started today.

December 16, 2018Hey! I completely understand. I’ve never been fond of womens shirts because of the cut, but mens shirts are too long in the arm. My suggestion is to create custom shirts. Not only is custom clothing made and personalized by you and for you, but you’ll be able to chose from an array of colors, patterns and more. I personally work with The Tailory NYC who offers reasonable prices and you can always reach out too, but there are other custom clothiers in the world as well.

January 14, 2019I wish I live in New York! Tailored suits here in Manila are expensive because the mindset is still old-school: that suiting up is reserved only for special occasions like weddings and big corporate events. Ergo, I buy shirts and coats with the smallest size available from the men’s section and just roll them up.
By the way, do you have any advice on suiting up for a 4’11” to 5 ft.? I’m not blessed with height and I don’t know if folding my pants or having it end above the ankles will make me look shorter. 🙁 Thank you and you rock btw! Been following your IG for years ^_^
