SOUND THE ALARMS 📣📣📣…The Tailory New York is now offering custom denim!
I think the Obama GIF above is the perfect visual to express how excited I am about The Tailory NYC’s latest feature. Don’t you? Haha! No, but seriously… so long to ill fitting, off the rack denim wear; hello to perfectly fitting jeans. Never in a million years did I think that I’d be wearing a fully custom denim jean set, but I can’t say that I was surprised when Shao shared the news with me. Shao is constantly stepping outside of the box and forcing others to reimagine traditional fashion ideologies, so, adding custom denim to her brand seemed like a no brainer!
Denim on Denim
Denim on denim can be a tricky trend to pull off. The key is striking the right balance throughout the look. For example – I chose a monochromatic look to highlight the denim set. If you’re styling a double denim look similar to mine then I recommend wearing a staple t-shirt, button up, or in my case – due to the winter weather – a turtleneck.
- We are constantly recycling trends so why not revive the vintage t-shirt by incorporating it into your outfit. Think Zach Morris in Saved By The Bell! The only difference is, your denim fit will be unique to you.
- Swap the jean jacket for a denim shirt, then play with contrasting jean washes. Something like a medium blue on the top and black or grey on the bottom, or a light blue top with white bottoms, or a light blue shirt with darker indigo denim. Get creative!
- Over the years, instead of the traditional suit, suit lovers have flocked to the casual denim on denim look. When paired with a turtleneck, the ensemble screams modern, chic, and professional.
Custom Denim
New year, new look! This ensemble was created just before the new year, so I apologize for the delay in sharing it.
Before I dive into today’s look, let me start off by saying that each consultation with Shao begins with me getting overwhelmed by the extensive pattern selection. This may surprise you, but choosing a denim wash was no different. It helped that I had already decided I wanted a black or grey wash. So all that was left to do was choose the undertone color, which could either give off a smokey or dark look. I went for the smoky undertones. Everything else I selected – the color, stitching, rivers, buttons, and of course, the cut – made for the perfect custom denim suit.
I’ve never owned a jean jacket that fit properly. Either the sleeves were too long or the body too big. So, I was super excited to have this jacket fit perfectly. The jacket was created with a slight crop to the body, ensuring that the bottom of the jacket sat right over my waist line. The jeans were constructed just the way I like them – a mid rise skinny leg. The best part is that I didn’t have to get them altered 😁.
A New Look
As a suit lover, it’s hard to break away from wearing what feels like my everyday uniform – a suit, which is why I decided on a modern more sophisticated way to style the denim suit. Sweet and straight to the point!
The denim set is the focal point of the outfit so there was no need to highlight any other elements of the ensemble. This is why I went with one of my go-to’s : all black everything with a splash of color – black turtleneck, black leather chelsea boots, and a red knit hat. You know my motto, simplicity is key!
So, what do you think? Is the denim set the new suit?
