5 Recommendations for the Ultimate New York Trip

New York is constantly evolving. What was in yesterday, might be out today, so it pays to keep your ear to the ground if you are planning a trip to the Big Apple in the future. While many tourists will plan to visit various commercial attractions, such as the likes of the Empire State Building and Central Park, there is more to this vibrant, eclectic city if you are willing to dig a little deeper and explore different attractions. If you have your tickets booked, checkout the following five recommendations for the ultimate New York trip.

1. The Whispering Gallery

The Whispering Gallery is undoubtedly one of the Big Apple’s best hidden gems. Located at the dining concourse inside Grand Central Station, you will find an acoustic marvel that will blow your mind, as the walls allow various sounds to travel across its domed ceiling. So, if you and a travel companion stand on different sides of the diagonal arches, you will be able to hear each other’s whispers.

2. The Secret Gardens of Rockefeller Center

Many locals and tourists often make their way to Rockefeller Center for its world-famous Christmas tree or ice skating rink. Sadly, many people often overlook the secret garden, 620 Loft and Gallery, which is tucked away high above the city’s streets.

The private garden features beautifully-shaped greenery and stunning views of St. Patrick’s Cathedral. The gardens aren’t new to the city, either, as they were designed between 1933 and 1936, but are often overlooked by many tourists visiting the city.

3. Lesser Known Museums and Galleries

New York offers more than the American Museum of Natural History and the Guggenheim, as it is home to many more lesser known museums and galleries that are worth a visit, such as:

  • The Jewish Museum
  • The Noguchi Museum
  • Museum of the Moving Image
  • The Museum at FIT

4. The Finest Stores

While Manhattan might be your first port of call when shopping in the city, you shouldn’t overlook Brooklyn, which is filled with many superb boutique stores that sell everything from designer clothing to recycled items. For example, you cannot go wrong with Antler & Woods, which allows you to sip on both wine and beer while browsing the clothing store.

There are so many great places to shop and enjoy your time in NYC for everyone, and to find the best stores and things to do in the Big Apple, checkout this gay travel New York guide.

5. A Piece of the Berlin Wall

You don’t need to travel to Germany to catch a glimpse of the original Berlin Wall, as you can view five concrete slabs at:

  • The 520 Madison Avenue Berlin Wall – Midtown, Manhattan
  • Ripley’s Believe it or Not Berlin Wall – Times Square, Manhattan
  • The United Nations Berlin Wall – Murray Hill, Manhattan
  • The Kowsky Plaza Berlin Wall – Battery Park, Manhattan
  • The Intrepid Museum Berlin Wall – Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan

The pieces were donated by the city of Berlin in November 2004 and are affixed onto a metal fence enclosing for security.

So there you have it! Five hidden gems that will make your New York adventure that much more special. I love seeing all the places you all explore, so, be sure to tag me on Instagram. Until next time…happy Travel!!!
