Endless Possibilities

Being a women in menswear comes with its challenges. There’s the never ending presumption that masculine presenting women are trying to be men AND, if society’s assumptions aren’t enough, there’s the battle of finding clothing that fits. Both cause so many to question who they are, where they fit in, and if they’ll ever be accepted.

Many of you think that fashion and style comes easy for me. Yeah, now it kind of does, but at one point, I too battled the questions and pressures of society and the lack of inclusivity of mainstream fashion. It wasn’t until I created She’s a Gent that I began to better understand fashion versus style and self-expression. I’m constantly researching, experimenting, and learning about the evolution of fashion by focusing on fabrics, color palettes, leathers, and suiting.

Expand Your Wardrobe

Do you ever feel like you have nothing to wear? Are your drawers full of clothing and closet stuffed to capacity, but still nothing? My advice – start to create your own style by getting rid of clothing that you haven’t worn in ages, identify the pieces that are comfortable for you and that you enjoy wearing then use those pieces as the focal point from which you start to create.

Remember, off the rack or mainstream clothing is not created for all shapes and sizes so you may have to tailor pieces to fit properly. I always found this to be frustrated, which is why I was so happy when I realized the importance of tailoring your clothing. When I started to wear bespoke and custom clothing I began feeling confident and comfortable in my own skin.

Having the perfect fit is one thing, but what I love most about custom clothing is creating multiple looks with fewer pieces. One of my favorite things about suiting is its endless possibilities. Today’s ensemble is nothing new. I’ve worn each other these pieces several times and I continue to find new ways to style them.

Two years ago, I created my first custom suit; a light blue double-breasted suit made from a cotton-linen blend. I’ve been patiently waiting to wear the warm weather-friendly piece and now I finally can. I paired the jacket with a lilac button-up and dark grey and royal check trousers. Mixing light and dark suiting pieces doesn’t always work, but in this case, it did.

Here’s a challenge for you. Change the way you look at your closet. Instead of shopping for new pieces, try to find new ways to style what you already own. Learn what colors, fabrics, and prints best compliment you and make you feel like your best self.

Great page!! I have just started my blog 3 days ago and looking at others to see what content and designs flow.. Basically adding value to others while sharing my thoughts and experiences have generated some nice feedback from people who I would never had thought enjoy reading.. Your post are very inspiring and if you get a little time check my page out @floetspear.blogspot.com.. I’ve recently mixed in some lyrics from old albums I recorded but my biggest hits are the thoughts and lifestyle type of blogging.. I recommend the “Forbidden Destiny” and the “Knowledge vs Wisdom” post. Let me know what you think..
