Sophisti-Casual Wear

What up beautiful people?! I know that we’re 19 days into the new year, but since this is my first post of 2020, happy New Year!

Lately, I’ve been battling my love for urban street wear and dapper wear. Obviously, I know that I can wear whatever I want and don’t have to chose between the two styles, but as a black masculine presenting woman in America, I know that presentation, like for black men, can sometimes decide the fate of your future (ie: career). On the flip side, y’all know that I’ve never been one to care about the status quo or norms. As a boundary pusher, I’m always looking for new ways to step outside of the box and inspire others to do the same. With that being said, a challenge that I’ve set for myself, this year, is finding a sophisticated way to merge my “basketball style” (ie: sneaker head style) with dapper wear.

Today’s look is what I like to call sophisticated casual wear. While I didn’t incorporate sneakers into this ensemble, the thick soles Dr. Marten’s added to the overall sportiness of the look. Also, the oversized sweatshirt and drop-crotch trousers don’t exactly scream dapper, the combination still elevates the look slightly passed streetwear. Thus, I present to you sophisti-casual wear. Look at me as being non-traditional, merging ideas, and creating new terms. Y’all know my motto, and I never stray from it – “why be the trend when you were created to be unique.”
